 JACOB BLAKE: Victim of Police Violence


     On Sunday, August 23, 29-year-old Jacob Blake was shot by policemen in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Blake's family attorney reported that Jacob was "breaking up a fight between two women" before walking away back towards his car that was parked on the street. In the graphic video showing the shooting, Blake is seen to be followed closely by policemen before being shot in the back seven times while leaning into his car. Jacob’s three children – ages 3, 5, and 8 – were in the vehicle when their father was shot. Blake’s father says that as of right now, his son is paralyzed from the waist down.

    Protests have erupted in the wake of Blake's shooting. Jacob Blake is a name that has been on people's lips all across social media. Some of the leading speakers on the issue have come from the world of sports, specifically the NBA. Players like LeBron James and Chris Paul have been very outspoken about the situation, speaking out of support for Blake's family and anger towards the situation. The protests have branched outside of Wisconsin into cities like Minneapolis, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, Des Moines, and Denver.  
    Many news sites are sending out live updates as more information is provided on the situation. These live updates are covering both the physical state that Blake is in as well as information on the continuing protests sparked by the shooting.
