20. VISUAL JOURNALISM

2020 Passion Conference Passion Website:  https://passionconferences.com/      Passion is a movement that had its first ever meeting in 1997. The name stems from its founding place, Passion 268 church. This church in Atlanta, Georgia is pastored by Louis Giglio and he is also the head of the Passion Conferences. I have had the opportunity to go to Passion two years in a row and both years it has been a life changing experience for me.      Passion is the meeting of thousands of college age believers who get to hear from famous Christian music artists as well as many great speakers of the Christian faith. The conferences are usually held over the span of 3 days and lasts throughout New Year’s Eve and Day. Sadly, Passion 2021 was canceled due to COVID-19, so I decided to relive some of my memories from last year by doing my last assignment about it.      Passion 2020 had some of my favorite evangelists come and speak. For exampl...

19. CLASSMATE BLOG CRITIQUE

Image
Legend Harris' Blog Critique https://legendharris.blogspot.com/      For our classmate blog critique project, I decided to focus on one blog from the class and take a deeper dive into the great parts of the blog and then see if I could find anything that may need some work. I chose Legend Harris' blog for this assignment because I have enjoyed looking at her worked briefly during class, and I wanted to see if there were more aspects that I liked about her website.      From the instant I open her blog, I am very pleased with the theme that Legend has chosen for her website. The colors flow very well together, and I really like how all of her posts contain graphics on the front page of the post. I think seeing a picture or graphic for the post makes readers initially more interested which leads to more people wanting to actually read the post in its entirety. I also like her use of interactivity from social media sites throughout her posts. https://...

18. NEWS APP CRITIQUE

Image
Flipboard News App      When I first began thinking about this assignment, my immediate thought was to do a critique on a news app that I was more familiar with. This includes the Apple news app, Buzzfeed News, and others. However, I eventually decided to do a quick Google search to see what the Internet thinks are the top news apps right now. One app that was on every list that I saw was an app called Flipboard.       I had never heard of this app, but it has a 4.7 star rating on the app store and covers a wide variety of topics. I decided to download it and give an honest opinion about the app. Starting off, Flipboard has a nice clean look to it. It keeps a simple color theme of red and black, and begins by walking through a short tutorial that explains how the app works.      First, Flipboard shows the user a screen full of various topics and allows them to pick which topics best interest them. This is my screen with the topi...

England Returning to Lockdown in Coming Days Story via: NPR News https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/10/31/929934683/england-to-return-to-lockdown-in-coming-days      Boris Johnson, England’s Prime Minister, stated on Saturday that the country will be entering a second Coronavirus lockdown that will start on Thursday and will run until early December. The lockdown includes the closing of all pubs and restaurants, non-essential retail shops, and the prohibiting of the mixing of different households indoors. The lockdown will also cause international travel to be banned with the exception of work. All schools and universities will stay open.      This will be England’s second lockdown due to COVID-19 and comes as a bit of a shock after Johnson had previously said he refuses to implement a second lockdown because it would be a disaster for the country. However, Boris now says, “The virus is spreading even faster than the reasona...

14. TRENDING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

What's Trending?           Today on Twitter, most of the hashtags or topics that are trending are ones with political intent behind them. This is understandable, seeing that we are in an election year. Both news sources and just regular citizens are being very outspoken on many political topics as we are down to the final days before the 2020 election.      One of the first hashtags that I saw trending on Twitter is #FloridaForBiden. This hashtag is about how many people in Florida are now pushing for Joe Biden in the Presidential race. I thought this was interesting seeing how Florida has voted in the past. While they have been won by both Democrat and Republican candidates in the past, people commonly see Florida as a red state. If Florida turns blue, this could be a crucial moment in determining who the next President of the United States of America is. First day of early voting in Florida. #NoMoreTrump #FloridaForBiden pic.twitt...
